North Hastings Children's Service Offers Several Licensed Child Care Programs
Licensed Child Care means that a license to operate a day nursery is issued by the Ministry of Children and Youth Services once all operating conditions are met.
Licensed child care is governed by the Day Nurseries Act (DNA) which sets out the ‘rules’ that must be followed. The Day Nurseries Act covers things like nutritional requirements, the amount of physical space needed per child, staffing qualifications, programming requirements, staff to children ratios, health and safety, equipment needed and how to manage children’s behaviors.
Licensed ChildCareCenters and Home Child Care homes are thoroughly inspected annually by a representative of the Ministry to ensure they continue to meet the conditions required.
Licensed Child Care means that there are many ‘checks and balances’ to ensure children are kept safe, healthy and happy!
Licensed Child Care also means that families can qualify to receive a child care fee subsidy. It is recognized that high quality child care can be a financial challenge for some families and subsidies help cover all or a portion of child care costs.
We are licensed to provide care for 3 infants (birth to 18 months); 5 toddlers (18 months to 2.5 years); 16 junior preschoolers (2.5 to 3.5 years); and 16 senior preschoolers (3.5 to 6 years). Each classroom is staffed by at least one Early Childhood Educator.
We have a bright, stimulating child care center that invites learning through exploration and play. We use an ‘Emergent Curriculum’ model which means that while teachers plan programming based on themes, they will adapt their plans to incorporate identified interests that children may have.
